Hon. Colonial Secretary,
Enclosure 2.
356
CO 9317
The Principal Land Surveyor visited the neighbour-
-hood of Sookumpo with Mr. Funatsu.
He enquired whether a site on the hill above the
old Belilios Reformatory was available. It was explained to him that the Government was not prepared to dispose of that land.
He eventually agreed that a site adjoining and to the N. of I.L. 1718 (Mt. Caroline Ex. for storing funeral urns) would
be suitable.
I attach a plan showing the lot in question coloured
red. The area is about 75,170 square feet. Mr. Funatsu wished to ex-
-tend the area to the North East, but it was explained to him that it
would not be advisable to have the path to the cemetery and Tai Hang
Rifle Range passing through the lot and there might be objections to
its diversion.
He is I understand satisfied with the area shewn
and would like it as a free grant (i.e. $1 per annum).
There is, I think, no objection to this as it is
unlikely that the Government will require it and its sale is improbable
as it is out of the way and inaccessible. Any extension to I.L.1718
would be to the South.
The value is assessed at:-
Premium 75,170 s.f. at 8 cents.
.86,013.60
Crow Rent 75,170 s.f. at $200 per acre equals
$346 per annum
or 7%..
capitalized at 14 /7 years
4,943.00
$ 10,956.60
Inland Lot 1879 was valued at a premium of 15 cents per square foot and crow rent at $300 per acre but this area is fairly level land close to main roads, whereas the one now applied for is steep hillside and somewhat inaccessible. There is, in fact, a
difference
